Ben & Megen’s Elopement Vow Renewal in Moab, Utah
Sand Dune Vow Renewal in Moab, Utah
Ben & Megen traveled out to Moab, Utah for their elopement vow renewal in the desert. This was actually our second time working with them, so they fully trusted us to choose their location and plan the itinerary for the day. This is their story to tell, so I won’t share any personal details but in short; we’d previously worked with them for their elopement in the Redwoods and while it was a beautiful, very fun and very special day that they still see so fondly, some tragedies in their personal life in and around that time have affected the experience and they felt inspired to create a “do-over” where they could fully focus on each other and give their wedding vows the time and attention they deserved. I love that they gave themselves permission to do this, and honestly, after doing our own vow renewal for our ten year anniversary, we feel so strongly in support of taking time to celebrate your marriage and write out new commitments after life experiences have changed your perspective. We felt honored to be invited (back) into their sacred moments together, and by the end of the day we were all so grateful to have made it happen.
We started their day in their little casita in the desert, where they enjoyed a slow morning and then got ready together, basking in the winter desert sun and soaking in all the little details. Megen had a few special surprises for Ben, including a precious photo of their dog in his tie. Once they were all ready, we loaded up in our car and set out on a mini-roadtrip to this remote dune area. This is one of my favorite little corners of the desert and it’s unique because the conditions can be super testy and dependent on the weather, recent winds, and recent crowds/visitors. We took a day to go up there as a family a little earlier in the week to scout everything out and choose our exact location, and we were so grateful how well everything worked out to be perfect for Ben and Megen! We spent the afternoon hiking around, exploring and playing in the sand like little kids, and when we found a good spot they chose to read their private vows to each other in a little cave, sheltered from the wind. We stayed out there until sunset, which was a bright golden burst of light under the cloud layer that only lasted a few minutes but felt like hours!
I really loved how intentional they were with all the details, from Megen’s desert rose veil (a Rue de Seine favorites!) and moon & star necklace, to Ben’s tie picked to match the red rocks. Everything came together so beautifully and now these two have stunning wedding portraits in the tall Redwoods as well as the wild windy desert. What a dream!
